Publish your first release
Before starting, complete Set up your press page — otherwise your release will have nowhere to appear.
1. Open the editor
Section titled “1. Open the editor”From the app, choose New press release.
2. Fill in the required fields
Section titled “2. Fill in the required fields”Six fields are required:
| Field | Notes |
|---|---|
| Title | The headline. Shown on the card and as the page heading. |
| Slug | The URL segment — /apps/press-release/<slug>. Keep it short and lowercase. |
| Published date | Drives the order releases appear in, and whether the release is visible yet. |
| Author | Who issued it. Pick from your saved authors or type a new one. |
| Category | Groups releases and powers the storefront category filter. |
| Description | A short summary. This is the text on the card, so write it to be read on its own. |
Plus the Content — the body of the release, written in the content editor.
3. Add a featured image
Section titled “3. Add a featured image”Optional, but it’s what makes the listing page look like a press room rather than a list of links. Upload one or pick from your existing Shopify Files. See Images and media.
4. Save
Section titled “4. Save”The release is written to your store as a press_release metaobject.
5. Look at it on your storefront
Section titled “5. Look at it on your storefront”Open /pages/press-releases. Your release should appear as a card. Click through to the detail page and check that:
- Your theme’s header and footer wrap the content.
- The Back to Press Releases link goes to your listing page. If not, fix the Listing page URL in Settings.
Choosing a good slug
Section titled “Choosing a good slug”The slug is the part of the URL a journalist copies into an email, so it wants to be readable and stable:
q3-results-2026— good.press-release-final-v2-USE-THIS— not good.
Changing a slug changes the URL. Anyone who already linked to the old one gets a 404, and there is no redirect. Settle the slug before you publicise a release.
- The release fields — what every field does.
- Featuring a release — badge your most important announcement.
- Block settings reference — tune the listing page.
