The release fields
A press release has six required fields, a body, and several optional ones.
Required
Section titled “Required”| Field | What it controls |
|---|---|
| Title | The headline — the card title and the detail page’s heading. |
| Slug | The URL: /apps/press-release/<slug>. Lowercase and hyphenated. |
| Published date | The order releases appear in, the date shown on the card, and whether the release is visible yet. See Dates and scheduling. |
| Author | Who issued the release. Pick from saved authors or type a new one. See Authors and categories. |
| Category | Groups releases and drives the storefront category filter. |
| Description | A short summary. This is the card text on the listing page. |
Content — the body — is also required. See The content editor.
Optional
Section titled “Optional”| Field | What it controls |
|---|---|
| Featured image | The image on the card and at the top of the detail page. See Images and media. |
| Featured | Badges the card. See Featuring a release. |
| SEO title / SEO description | Override what search engines and social previews show. See SEO. |
| Source link | A URL to coverage elsewhere. See Linking to an external source. |
| Redirect to source | Sends visitors straight to the source link instead of your detail page. |
Writing the description
Section titled “Writing the description”The description does more work than its size suggests. It is:
- The card text on your listing page.
- The fallback for search-engine and social previews when no SEO description is set.
So write it as a standalone summary, not as the first sentence of the body. “Following the board meeting in March…” reads as truncated on a card; “GISL reports 18% revenue growth in Q3” does not.
Changing fields later
Section titled “Changing fields later”Every field is editable after publishing, with one caveat: changing the slug changes the URL, and there is no redirect from the old one. Anyone who linked to it gets a 404.
Everything else — title, date, author, category, content — can be revised freely. The storefront picks changes up on the next page load.
Where this is stored
Section titled “Where this is stored”Each release is a press_release metaobject in your own Shopify store, visible in your admin under Content → Metaobjects. The app keeps no copy of its own. See Privacy and your data.
